Nicole Barnes
Vice President, Learning, Energy, and Environment for Development, RTI International

Sessions: Panel [Reimagining Development] (Day 2 Morning)
Picture
Nicole Barnes is the Vice President of the Learning, Energy, and Environment for Development (LEED) Division for the International Development Group (IDG) at RTI International.
In her 17 years at RTI she has held a range of roles. Currently leading one of IDG’s five technical divisions, she started as an individual contributor and became the Deputy Director of the governance division. She also led business strategy and communications in IDG, where she designed and implemented several strategic investments for IDG’s long-term growth.

Nicole is a connector of people, ideas, and initiatives. She collaborates across teams to identify and encourage “outside the box” thinking. This results in creative technical expansion of the Institute’s work, growth in RTI’s key markets, and positive impact in the countries and communities where we work.

She has worked in international development for 25 years, including 11 years working overseas on long-term assignments. Her technical experience is rooted in numerous elements of public finance. She has held both long- and short-term assignments for the US Agency for International Development and its contractors, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank.

Nicole graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in City Planning and from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies.
