Realizing the Circular Economy Advantage
The circular economy is one of the most important mechanisms for progress towards a more sustainable and secure future for all. But true circular change requires ecosystem collaboration between the private sector, policymakers, investors, academics, social enterprises, NGOs and civil society to drive real scale and impact. We’ll discuss the environmental and financial imperatives of the circular economy and how value can be recaptured from all types of waste. We’ll also look at weaknesses the pandemic has revealed in our current linear economic system, and how the circular economy can help us through building more resilience into our global supply chains, increasing resource efficiency, regenerating natural systems and spurring innovation.

Focusing on Women and Girls in COVID Response and Recovery
Women and girls are being disproportionately affected economically and socially by COVID-19, and they risk losing ground in the recovery. They are the majority of frontline workers in the response and they are losing jobs and income disproportionately, even as they assume the larger share of paid and unpaid care responsibilities, and face skyrocketing rate of gender-based violence. This panel will discuss the impact of COVID on efforts to foster gender equality and strategies for preventing long-term backsliding of efforts for equality.
Moderator: Caren Grown - Global Director, Gender, The World Bank

Local Leadership for Sustainable Urban Development
Historically, increased urbanization has been tied to economic growth. Yet, today this link is less evident in developing countries where a greater share of the poor live in urban areas, up to 70% of city dwellers lack access to basic services, and cities projected to grow the fastest have the least resources per capita to manage the growth. This panel will bring together mayors of cities in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America to discuss the challenges and potential solutions to achieve more equitable, inclusive, safe, and resilient cities.
Moderator: John McArthur - Senior Fellow, Global Economy and Development, Brookings Institution
From the images used in a report to the wording put together to describe a program, how we communicate has the potential to reinforce or disrupt racism and other systems of oppression. This session will draw upon best practices in communications, anti-racist approaches, and brain science research, to give participants actionable communications strategies and tactics.
